This time the Globalization and Localization Association (GALA) has invited the global translation and localization community to Miami, USA and welcomed nearly 300 participants.
As always, the content of the event was only surpassed by its diversity. In addition to traditional activities, like networking sessions, the GALA Film Fest, a Gala Dinner and 5 tracks of sessions and demos, the organizers have prepared Agile conferencing and Knowledgefest, new and exciting types of roundtable discussions that gave the unique opportunity of peer-to-peer learning in an environment structured around topics of interest.
Traditionally, the content has been rich in presentations on technology, content management and MT (Localization 2020: Making Content Reactive, Reflective, and Personal, Paraic Sheridan; An MT Case Study: Breaking into Latin American Markets on a Small Budget, María Azqueta (SeproTec), Diego Bartolomé (tauyou); Leveraging Language Technology to Build Your Post-Editing Practice, Andy Reid & Riz Karim (SDL), Measuring and Managing Post-editing Productivity Gains at Welocalize, Olga Beregovaya & Alex Yanishevsky (Welocalize); Applying ITS 2.0 to Online MT Systems in HTML5, Pedro Diez Orzas & Pablo Badía Mas (Linguaserve), Arle Lommel (DFKI), Daniel Grasmick (Lucy) etc.). As a part of GALA Standards Initiative that gathered industry specialists and activists with a mission to fill the gaps in the industry standards, GALA has invited the following speakers: John Watkins (ENLASO) with Understanding Localization Standards (and Actually Using Them); Stephen Doherty (DCU), Lucia Specia (Univ. of Sheffield), Arle Lommel (DFKI) with QTLaunchPad Workshop on Multidimensional Quality Metrics. The session details are available on the conference site.
