One of InText’s latest experiences was a collaboration with the Qualitätssprachendienste Deutschlands association (QSD) to organize the German Language Industry Networking event, which was held on September 17, 2020. We’d like to share this experience as a case study of a really fascinating project.

The event was organized to introduce the report “The State of the Language Services Industry in Germany 2020”, based on research by language industry expert Konstantin Dranch. The report summarizes information on German language services providers, media localization companies, and technology providers.

After the presentation, a networking session was planned to discuss the report, make new business contacts and enjoy a chat with industry colleagues after such a long separation due to the pandemic.

About QSD

Qualitätssprachendienste Deutschlands (QSD) association is a respected and recognized body that has represented German language services providers for more than 20 years. It is unique in the German-speaking world.

All QSD members have certified quality assurance systems according to DIN EN ISO 9001 or ISO 17100, or proven quality assurance in line with the QSD quality guidelines. Before being admitted to the association, they completed an audit. That makes the association, founded in 1998, a pioneer in the industry with regard to quality assurance.

QSD is an active member of EUATC (European Union of Associations of Translation Companies). EUATC is committed to assuring the quality of language services at the European level. QSD is also associated with the BDÜ, Bundesverband der Dolmetscher und Übersetzer e.V., in the form of an extraordinary membership.

Konstantin along with the QSD invited InText to take part in organizing the event because of our experience in running the UTIC projects. A talented researcher, communicator and inspiring event host, Konstantin was in charge of preparing the research, generating ideas, creating engaging content, attracting brilliant people and facilitating networking. InText assisted by taking care of all the technical issues, support, and assuring positive customer experience.

We took on the following tasks:

  • Publication of information about the event in industry communities
  • Fine-tuning of the onboarding communications
  • Creation of an event in Eventbrite and provision of content
  • Communication support for attendees, partners and sponsors (mailing, invoicing, promo content creation)
  • Test calls with speakers and sponsors
  • Creation of an event environment in Remo
  • Provision of online tech support during the event
  • Preparation of follow-ups for partners and sponsors
  • Management and analysis of attendees feedback

We had less than 2 weeks to prepare everything and onboard enough attendees to ensure a successful presentation and networking. The cost was 45 EUR for a standard ticket and 150 EUR for a premium ticket (limited offer), and we beat all expectations by attracting 175 attendees, including QSD members, translation company representatives, translation technology developers, and freelance translators.

The event started with introductory remarks by QSD President, Heike Leinhäuser. We then had a contribution from Dr. Christopher Kurz, Head of Translation Management at ENERCON and ZF Friedrichshafen Head of Translations. Konstantin presented the research report (read the brief summary here) and hosted the online networking. Everyone had the opportunity for a nice chat at a Remo virtual table and enjoyed participating in different discussions.

InText representatives also took part as attendees, and we even raffled a bottle of Moët & Chandon champagne at the InText table which has already been successfully delivered to the winner from Stockholm, Sweden! So, we enjoyed both the experience of working in the organizers’ team and attending a top-notch translation industry online event.

We are grateful for this collaboration and such a good opportunity to try new approaches in event organization, maintaining the balance between speed and quality and learning about new technologies and tools.
